e-NC Authority Connecting Communities

Where is high-speed Internet available in North Carolina?
The e-NC Authority works to accurately track availability of high-speed Internet services (DSL and cable modem service) throughout the state by working one-on-one with telecommunications companies. On an annual basis, data about service areas is solicited by our organization and compiled together to reflect the percentage of households in each of North Carolina’s 100 counties that have the ability to access a high-speed Internet connection. Wireless and satellite access is not included because of low data reliability.

Based on coverage information provided by telecommunications companies, the e-NC Authority releases an annual 100 County Report that outlines access to high-speed Internet in all 100 counties. This report shows where high-speed service is available in each county and lists the service providers for each area. This coverage information is also used to update our geographic information service (GIS). Our GIS allows users to focus in on a specific area to see a variety of infrastructure such as roads, towers and public Internet access sites. The e-NC Authority also posts maps that may aid in visualizing levels of connectivity in North Carolina.
